Periyar Tiger Reserve (PTR) is situated in the bg_pic1Cardamom Hills and Pandalam Hills of the Southern Western Ghats of peninsular India. The major portion of the Reserve forms the catchment of the river Periyar and the rest that of river Pamba. Administratively, PTR falls in Idukki, Kottayam and Pathanamthitta districts of Kerala state. The reserve is divided into two functional divisions, each managed by a Deputy Director. Periyar East is the larger division with an area of 707 and headquartered at Thekkady, where most of the tourism activities are centred. This Division is divided into three Ranges – Thekkady, Periyar and Vallakkadavu.

Periyar West division (218 has its headquarters at Peermedu and is divided into two Ranges, Azhutha and Pamba. Each Range under a Range Officer is further divided into Sections and Beats, looked after by Foresters and Forest Guards respectively.

Eco-lodge & Centre for experiential learning 
An eco-lodge for experiential learning run exclusively by a Forest Department initiative to support local communities. The fifteen bamboo huts with hygienic and modern furnishing are placed between bamboo thickets. The ambience of Bamboo Grove provides an opportunity to listen to the whistling of bamboo culms, chirping of birds and the flow of small rivulets emerging out from the swamps of he surrounding Periyar meadows. The Bamboo Grove programme also offers an eco-friendly environment to conduct seminars, symposiums, workshops and training programs in the centrally located ‘Kalari’, a conference hall with audio-visual facilities.
The Bamboo Grove package consists of an orientation programme, a visit to a tribal colony, wildlife film shows, bird watching, trekking and a complimentary boat ride on the famous Periyar Lake. Lunch and dinner on the first day and breakfast on the second day are included in the package.

Group size: Two people per cottage; maximum of 30 tourists in 15 cottages @Rs. 1500/- per cottage.
For hiring the seminar hall (Kalari): Rs. 3000/- per day, for a maximum of 50 persons.
Only children of 12 years and above are allowed to participate in the above programme.
